When your health is not at it’s optimum, it can be extremely stressful. Sometimes, the pain, agony, or discomfort can be so intense, it encapsulates your focus and becomes difficult to think about anything else. These seven simple Christian prayers for healing will give you seven types of prayer you can do when you need healing in your body.
I’ve had times where I’ve gotten sick, and whether was a common cold or an intense pain like my cesarean section, I know how it is to lose productivity and become distracted by discomfort in the body.
I’ve written these seven simple Christian prayers for healing in effort to help encourage you thru your situation. Here are seven simple prayers you can do when you need healing in your body. You can use these verbatim or use them as examples that you can take and spend intimate time with God.
1. Praying the Promises
Praying the promises is uplifting. Often times when we need healing in our bodies, we combat fear, anxiety, and many other mental battles to sustain our peace and perseverance. Repeating God’s promises can help reprogram your mind. When you hear “you may always be struggling with this”, “nobody cares about you”, or other negative voices and belief systems battling in your mind, it can be useful to repeat a scripture like Isaiah 41:10 which says:
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
And, repeat a declaration of faith like…
I believe the Lord is with me and I won’t be dismayed. He will strengthen me and help me. He will uphold me with His righteous right hand.
You want to focus on the scripture and your declaration of faith until it’s deeply rooted, and becomes a natural response to the negative voices you may be battling.
2. Praying the Scriptures
Similar to praying the promises, praying the scriptures has a calming affect on our personal beings. Rather than extracting a scripture and repeating it for our own consumption, praying the scripture is using the words written in the Bible and using them as a petition before God. An example of praying the scriptures is:
I thank you that you are God, the Creator, and Maker
I acknowledge that you are all powerful and all knowing
You know me down to the hairs on my head and the pores on my skin
You know the ailments in my body right now
You word says:
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turnfrom their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV)
I ask your forgiveness of my sins dear God, and I come humbly before you abandoning my wicked ways. I ask that you would direct me in your righteous path and heal my land in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
3. Praying thru Song
There are many songs that are heartfelt petitions for healing. Sometimes, when you need healing, you may not know what words to pray, but you can hum or sing along with a song. Some songs I know that are petitions for healing are:
4. Praying your genuine heart cry
Praying your genuine heart cry is always an option for simple Christian prayers. You can simply close your eyes and talk to your Maker openly, honestly, and intimately. You can express to Him what is going on in your body, what you would like to happen to make you feel better, and be open with Him.
Take a look at Psalms and how David talked to God. He dialogued with God as we would talk to one another. He held a high honor for God as his Maker, but He was very expressive. He told God when He was happy, disappointed, sad, and everything in between.
God knows you are human. He understands the limits of our thoughts, our minds, and our nature. He created us, remember?
Don’t be ashamed to have emotion with God. He understands you more than anyone else. You don’t have to worry about Him telling your conversation, blasting you in the face, criticizing you or abandoning you as a human can. He is your omnipotent Father. Lay your petitions before Him.
5. Praying thru your written journal
Writing can be an extremely relieving way to communicate to God. You can use words or not. You can draw pictures, use colors, shapes, paper mache or whatever you want to use to communicate your prayers to God in writing.
He is all knowing and not limited by our spoken tongue. You can use a bullet journal, a sketchbook, a regular notebook, or whatever you want to use to communicate simple Christian prayers to God.
6. Praying with a Partner
Often times, I’ve found praying with someone who I feel comfortable with can provide great breakthrough. There are Christian people in my life who I feel confortable telling about obstacles, praises, trials, or whatever it may be that is going on. These same people are my ideal prayer partners because they usually have a vested interest in my wellbeing to the point where they can pray things I may have missed.
You can receive effective prayers from people you know and people you don’t know. James 5:13-16 says:
Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
James was telling us that praying with the elders of the church is good. Now, you have to be careful not to choose an elder based on title, but choose based on application of scipture into their lives. Regardless, it’s good to find elders who are yielded to God, and allow them to pray for your situation.
7. Speaking blessings over your body
We have power in our tongues! Our prayers don’t need to be complex. They can be simple Christian prayers.
If we say something enough, it effects the way we feel. Speaking blessings over your body is simply a practice to speak in fath over your body. Speaking blessings over your body can be very informal, or it can be formal and use scriptures to pray.
Here is an example of speaking blessings over the body:
This body is a temple of God
This body is fearfully made from the crown of my head to the soles of my feet
These hands have been blessed by God
This mouth is blessed to speak healing over my body
These hands are used to transform things in a positive way
You can add on and bless every part of your body if you like. I’d recommend it!
Hopefully these seven simple Christian prayers are encouraging for you. Ailments in the body can be very challenging. I want to leave you with this scripture:
Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door! Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. As you know, we count as blessedthose who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. (James 5:7-11 NIV)
Sometimes, people like to couple their prayer times with healing oils or other spiritual symbols to visualize physically what they’d like to happen in the spiritual realm. You can add physical anchors alongside these seven simple Christian prayers if you’d like.
The prayer exercise in no way can demand God’s healing. He’s promised to return for us, and when He returns, we can be assured that the ailments and struggles we experience here will be no more. In the meantime, God can give us exceeding grace and mercies that can cause ideas for alleviating pain to be increased, pain to be lifted, stress to be reduced, and in some instances, people can be healed before Jesus’ return.
